Fall in Love With The Fall... PDF Print E-mail

scene from The FallRent the film.
Watch it.
I dare you.
Ponder the impossible. Be moved by selfishness and innocence and indescribable visions in a story that has to be told.

Love redeems in the end but this looking glass view goes the way of the rabbit.

The child actor Catinca Untaru is delightful and mesmerizing. She speaks English, but does she?

Because the director, Tarsem Singh, can't get funding for his film, he spends all his own money (millions he's made making commercials) on his passion for this movie. Shot on location in 28 countries.

I agree with Roger Ebert that it is "one of the most astonishing films I have ever seen. It is all the more special in this age of computer-generated special effects, because we see things that cannot exist, but our eyes do not lie, and they do exist, yes, they really do." The reason he said this is that all of the fantastic things you see in the film actually exist in the world without computer-generated graphics.

"Vision is the physician, Art is the prescription." - Fred Babb

adventure in sensing

There he is, 3 feet of little man, sensing everything.

With fascination he takes in the walk. Spys clumps of red rose smells, still tastes the tree-picked plums from lunch on his tongue.

Blue lights he calls them, there, stuck in the asphalt. Always two in a horizontal line. In between, there,  nestled in the shrubs or to the side on the meticulously kept lawn is the yellow fire eater. I let him do the which way.

His zig and zag make it so he misses no sight on the journey. Bending down to see Kelsey creek moving by,  jailed deep into the pit of the drain.  His pea gravel drops perfectly between the bars. Plunk.

A flower for mom. Three beautiful yellow flowers. They aren't weeds now.

The stage will never be empty when sensing sees clearly and imagination lets go.

image from Yes ManIt came up in the Netflix queqe. $220 million have already been hauled in  since it came out in Dec '08. Not having seen any trailers... I admit it was simply the title and concept that pulled me in. Yes Man's trailers suck. They show the bafoon.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind... and Truman were memorable. Are there a thimbleful of others in the comedy realm where Carey is not doing his bafoonie oh-so-trying tricks? The director makes all the difference.

I admit I laughed.

Yes, I would have done things differently if I was adapting a film based on a true story  written by Danny Wallace which was already funny.

Unless a Jim Carey comedy causes you involuntary body responses of pulling ones hair out or immediate hurling....take a chance just for the concept.

Especially if you are in a funk and everything in your life seems doom and gloom.

I dare you to say yes for a day.

8 Words, 3 Minutes PDF Print E-mail

I have issues. Just like everyone.

To get out of my "there" to my "here", I remind myself of what works. Stories of people who live according to their hearts and make waves unconventionally find me saying, YES.

I haven't seen District 9 yet. So, I watched The Fifth Element again. One of my favorite movies. How Luc Besson got to his "here" is an inspiring story.

Stories and words. Short words that burst my bubble's sticky stuffiness and get me back on track.

TED'ster stories speak for themselves. I think Luc Besson's story embodies the 8 words. Enjoy.

ami_kay_suiteAll the senses firing. Aware of where I am on stage, on camera. If I have the freedom to move, I make the higher choice. The story keeps getting told in every move, every look, every bend and breath. And it's always about relationship...this one real life with second daughter of my heart.

Her eyes...the  Minolta SRT-101.

She is here in white boots and mini skirt driven to there in her '65 Volkswagen beetle. She's embraced and loved for her work and ways. It is 1967 and 1968.

42 years later...pouring over proof sheets and slides at our dining room table. Slipping back to a when where anarchists take their form on two wheels. Function solid with intent the San Francisco Hell's Angels  stick with the life-style instead of  the slip-slide into prostitution, drugs and violence. The SF clan let the "others" do the dirty deeds.

Okay, when attacked, they do fight back.

She's part of my life now. At 82 she still follows her dream. She's asked me not to introduce her  as my mother-in-law.

Hello, I'd like you to meet Eve.  Eve Crane.

Scheech! Kabob PDF Print E-mail
Written by Kay LaVergne Jaz

A meal for 7. One hour till delivery. Sounds simple enough. Chunks of meat, some veggies, bamboo poky instruments. Here they are. All laid out.

Bamboo sticks. Uh oh. needs 24hours soaking before sticking. Hmmmm. Doesn't chicken cook slower than mushrooms? Which way do you cut the onion so it doesn't fall off? Zucchini should be how thick?

Quick. Grab Joy of Cooking. It sees all, says all. Hmmmm. The birdy breasts are usually to be marinated 24 hrs. before in brandy, soy sauce, ginger, brown sugar, and olive oil?

All the veggies should be done at the same time...Par broil. What's that. Shannon where are you?

Noooooooooooo. Have I really lived this long without doing a kabob?

Bad Robot. STOP. STOP NOW. Reprogram.

BREATHE ...Say what I SEE...the soy sauce, brown sugar, white wine, olive oil.
Sing. You put the half cup in, you leave the brandy out, you put the other three in and shake it all about. You do the Hokey Pokey  and turn yourself around. That's what it's all about.
You cut the white meat up, you grab the casserole dish, you throw the whole thing together and stir it all up. You do the Hokey Pokey and turn yourself around...okay, I get it.

Aha.

The fruit salad is a piece of cake.

Challege of the week. Visit your local farmers market and create an aha masterpiece.
